Operations tip of the week: Time allocation for market managers

At the 2017 FMO Symposium, farmers’ market educator Michelle Wolf emphasized the importance of managing your time when managing your farmers’ market. Michelle said good time management is key in setting and achieving goals.

A recipe for success!

Market managers should set aside 50% of their time to the core function of the market; interacting with vendors and customers. 15% of market manager time should be devoted to admin-related activities like budgeting, payroll and checking e-mails. 10% of market manager time should be spent on planning; planning for the next market day, for the upcoming week, month and year in order to stay focused on goals.

Last but not least, 25% of market manager time should be allocated to marketing. This means social media, writing press releases, communicating with local media and other initiatives that promote the market.
