“Budd Gardens became 101 years old in 2012,” Don Budd proudly noted when describing his family’s farming history in Blackburn Hamlet. Don & Dave began working in the fields and selling vegetables at the ByWard Market as youngsters and in the early 70’s, when their father retired, they took over the business. Eventually, the primary focus shifted to growing and marketing perennial plants. In keeping with Don’s Hosta passion, Budd Gardens customers may choose from over 500 Hosta varieties, along with a wide array of other popular perennials. Enthusiasm for their enduring gardening business is clearly expressed by Don’s comment, “plant people are the nicest people to be around.”
