Farmers’ Markets Ontario® (FMO) is a provincially recognized organization representing more than 180 farmers’ markets across Ontario. We connect market managers, farmers and vendors with practical support while helping more people discover the benefits of shopping locally.
FMO supports its members through:

- Marketing and promotional support
- Training and professional development
We also promote member markets, support verified local farmers through the MyPick® program and encourage people across Ontario to connect with the farmers, producers and vendors in their communities.
More Than 200 Years of Farmers’ Market History
Farmers’ markets have been bringing people together in Ontario for more than two centuries.
The Kingston Public Market was officially established in 1801 and is recognized as Ontario’s oldest and longest-running public market. It served as an important place for residents to buy, sell and trade goods while connecting with their community.
Farmers’ Markets Ontario was established in 1991 through the efforts of Bob Chorney, dedicated market supporters and the provincial agriculture ministry. Since then, FMO has worked with market managers, farmers, vendors, governments and community partners to support strong and sustainable farmers’ markets.
Today, farmers’ markets continue to provide direct connections between the people who grow and make local products and the people who purchase them. They are welcoming community spaces that support Ontario farmers, local businesses and local food.
